Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. The LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not a brand plucked from the fire?" Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, "Remove the filthy garments from him." Again he said to him, "See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes." Then I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the LORD was standing by.
And the angel of the LORD admonished Joshua, saying, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'If you will walk in My ways and if you will perform My service, then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I will grant you free access among these who are standing here.
Now listen, Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you - indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch. For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'every one of you will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and under his fig tree.'"
- Zechariah 3
Unlike much of the Old Testament scriptures, this chapter seems to be relatively clear. The vision is of Joshua standing before the angel of the LORD with Satan going over the list of sins that Joshua has committed. Meanwhile, Satan gets rebuked and Joshua's dirty robes (a symbol of his sin) are replaced with clean robes (a symbol of purity and righteousness). This swap is performed at the declaration from God, not by any request or work of Joshua, himself.
We also see that the LORD declares that if Joshua will follow His commands, he will be a ruler in His household, which parallels the idea from the New Testament that we will rule over the angels in heaven. When we spend eternity with God, we will be given dominion over areas based on our degree of obedience here in this world.
In the final paragraph, God points out that Joshua and all Israel are a symbol of what is to come. He alludes to the idea that others will be grafted in at some future date. In the meantime, Israel, while under the Law, is set apart from other nations. Later, it will not only be Israel, but all the nations of the world who will contain a certain number of people who will be similarly set apart to be people of God. He will remove the sins of all those people in the same way he removed Joshua's filthy robes. Those people will, in turn, go about and invite others to believe in the coming Messiah so that they can also have their sin removed from them.
Jewish people generally do not evangelize. They don't go out and seek to convert people to Judaism. But this last bit seems to indicate that, at some point in the future, part of the responsibility of God's people will be to tell others about Him and attempt to persuade people to accept Him as the one true God and submit their lives to Him in order to have their sins removed and be replaced with the righteousness of the Messiah who is to come.
So, go tell someone about Jesus!
